Flexible monthly membership at our pottery studios in London. There's no curriculum and no set classes. You come when it suits you and make whatever you want.
From £222/month · Hoxton · Leyton · Highgate
The studio works for a complete beginner and a working ceramicist on the same day, in the same space, both getting something useful out of it. Plenty of people are somewhere in between.
You come and go as your week allows, make whatever you want, and work at your own pace. Nobody assigns you projects or checks your skill level before you join. Technicians are on hand if you need advice, but you're working independently rather than following a class.
The one thing we do ask is that you’ve taken at least one ceramics course before joining, here or elsewhere. You don’t need to be experienced, but you do need to know the basics of working safely in a shared studio.

Why 15 hours per week? Our part-time model is how we keep costs down for everyone. By sharing equipment and space across many members, we can offer access at a fraction of what a private studio would cost. Like a gym, the model works because not everyone comes at once.
Every plan gives you the same studios, facilities and inclusions. The only difference is how long you commit for and how you pay.
Commit to a period, pay each month. The longer you stay, the more you save.
Come for 5 hours a week and the 6-month plan works out at about £12 an hour. Even the flexible option is only £13 at that usage.
Three things people wonder before signing up, answered honestly.
At 5 hours a week on the 6-month plan, it works out at about £12 an hour. That covers wheels, tools, glazes, firing, storage, and technician support. A private studio setup starts at £3,000 before you've bought clay, and you still won't have a kiln.
You don't need to be any good yet. Nobody arrives knowing what they're doing, and that's fine. A lot of our members joined straight after a first course, able to centre and not much else, and they got better the way everyone does, by turning up and making the same shape until it comes right. That's what membership gives you that a weekly class can't: the time to practise as much as you like. And if you're worried about being the obvious beginner in the room, don't be. Everyone's absorbed in their own work, and most people are too busy with their own wheel to notice anyone else's.
The shortest plan is two months rolling or one month upfront. That's enough to find out if studio access works for you without a big commitment. If it does, switch to a longer plan and pay less. If it doesn't, you stop.
Here's what members who use the studios every week make of it.
“I finished a 12-week course and signed up for membership the same week. Having my own shelf, knowing the technicians, and just being able to turn up whenever I want has completely changed my relationship with clay.”
Anna, member since 2024, Hoxton
“The value is genuinely hard to beat. I come three times a week, use professional equipment, and the technicians are always happy to help if I get stuck. It costs less than most gym memberships and I actually look forward to going.”
David, member since 2023, Leyton
“I was nervous about working independently after just one course, but the technicians made the transition easy. Now I come every Saturday morning and it’s become the best part of my week. The community here is something you don’t get at a class.”
Priya, member since 2024, Highgate
Every studio has the same pricing, facilities and inclusions, so just pick whichever is easiest to get to.

01
Any ceramics course counts. A 6-week taster, an 8-week intro, or our full 12-week programme. You just need to know the basics of working safely in a shared studio.
02
Pick a commitment length and how you'd like to pay. All plans include the same access, equipment, and studio time. Longer commitments cost less per month.
03
A short session where you'll meet the technicians, find your shelf, and learn how the studio runs day to day. After that, you're set up and ready to go.
04
Visit whenever the studio is open. You don't need to book and there's no set schedule. Bring a project or start something new, with technicians around if you need a hand.
The things most people want to know before joining.
▸
No. Any ceramics course counts, whether you took it here or elsewhere. We just need you to know the basics of working safely in a shared studio. If you're a complete beginner, you're welcome to join, but we'll ask you to book a few hours of private tuition with one of our technicians before you start working independently.
▸
Yes. How it works depends on your contract type. Monthly plans have a minimum commitment period, after which you can cancel. You can also suspend your membership if you need a break. Full details are on our contracts page.
▸
The studio provides clay, glazes and all the equipment. The one thing to bring is your own apron, since it needs washing after each visit to keep dry clay dust down. You can pick up a basic tool kit for £5 if you'd like your own set.
▸
Technicians are on hand to answer questions and offer advice as you work. It's informal help rather than structured lessons, but if you're stuck, they'll get you unstuck. For focused one-to-one instruction, you can book private tuition at £27 an hour, which suits people returning to clay after a break or wanting to try a new technique.
▸
Your membership is tied to one studio. If you'd like to switch, get in touch and we can arrange a move to another. We don't currently offer memberships that cover more than one studio.
▸
In practice, equipment has always been sufficient for the number of members. People tend to come and go at different times, so congestion is rare. If all the wheels are in use, we ask that you limit your session on that equipment to about 3 hours so others get a turn.
▸
Ceramics is a multi-stage process. You make a piece, dry it for a few days, fire it (which takes a full day and night), glaze it, then fire it again. A single visit doesn't give you enough time to complete anything. Monthly membership lets you work at the pace the material actually requires.
▸
A class gives you structured teaching: a teacher, a set schedule, a curriculum to follow. Membership gives you independent access to come when you want and work at your own pace. Most people take classes to learn the craft, then move to membership to keep making once they have the basics.
▸
Every studio has Shimpo Whisper pottery wheels, L&L electric kilns, a slab roller, extruder, and pugmill. We provide over 20 ready-mixed glazes developed by our technical team over 10 years, with test tiles so you can see how they fire. You also get a personal storage shelf (approximately 90cm x 45cm x 45cm) and up to 30 litres of standard-temperature firing per month.
▸
We're open 66 hours a week. Tuesday to Thursday from 10am to 10pm, and Friday to Sunday from 10am to 8pm. We're closed on Mondays. You can visit any time during opening hours with no booking required.

Membership gives you 15 hours of independent studio time each week, with no timetable and nothing to follow. Your own shelf, all the equipment, and access to our kilns whenever you need them.
A lot of our members started exactly where you are now. If you've finished a course and want to keep going, this is how.
