COVID-19 Update: Turning Earth courses will continue

Structured courses in Turning Earth’s Learning Hubs in Argall Avenue and Cremer St will continue as scheduled under Tier 3, with the most stringent measures in place to ensure they can do so in a Covid-19 secure way. This is in line with other adult education providers and community colleges across the country offering courses with formally defined educational objectives and a set curriculum equivalent to ours, which will continue to operate under the education exemption.

We have adapted our classrooms to provide the highest standards of Covid-19 secure learning. We have:

- moved all classes to sites large enough to accommodate full social distancing of 2 metres or fitted perspex screens where this is not possible
- carried out regular Covid-19 Secure inspections
- created stringent cleaning protocols for high contact areas and shared equipment
- implemented temperature checks
- implemented visors and masks for teachers
- implemented amplification for teaching where necessary
- require all students to regularly wash hands
- require consistent mask wearing
- eliminated bottlenecks by installing more cleaning facilities
- implemented ventilation throughout and after classes
- carry out deep cleaning after classes

Please note: Turning Earth Hoxton classes sell out extremely quickly (often within minutes), particularly those held in the evenings. Due to our high number of subscribers and the comparatively small size of our team, we don't have the resources to manage an advance waiting list. Instead, we now list the date and time that each course goes online as soon as we have scheduled it so that you can set a reminder to come back and book. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to welcoming you into the studio soon.

About Turning Earth's ceramics classes

Our courses run all year round and each one is taught by an experienced Turning Earth artist. Each class has only 12 students to a teacher so you can expect plenty of individual attention.  Classes cover both hand-building techniques and wheel throwing and are available for anyone aged 16 or older. Tuition fees are  £305 for a 12-week standard class, and each session is  2.5 hours long. When your work is ready to be fired, there’ll be a small charge of £3.60 per kg for materials. Courses are non-refundable once in progress or when the course is sold out.

We also offer some 3-hour throwing class over 12 weeks. The fee for the throwing class is £365 for 12 weeks (3 hours each class).

Read more about our classes here.

You can also sign up for a week-long Turning Earth Intensive if you prefer to put aside a block of time to learn rather than attending a weekly class; please see below.

Week-long 'Turning Earth Intensive' ceramics courses

Due to popular demand, we now hold one-week intensive courses at the Leyton studio.

We've crammed the content of our 12-week course - plus some extras - into a single week. It's a great way to get going in the craft quickly without the long-term commitment of a weekly time slot.

Plan a mini London 'claycation' and get creative in our beautiful East London studio. When you 'graduate' you'll have all the tools you need to become a studio member and come and go at times that suit you.

Please note, to facilitate ample time for firing, a glazing workshop will be held the weekend following the course (8 or 9 days later).
